The Walking Dead Claims The Life Of Another Character In Season 8s Penultimate Episode

SPOILER ALERT: This story contains details of tonights episode of The Walking Dead.

As the war rages on in The Walking Dead universe, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) continues to try to live his life in the wake of Carls (Chandler Riggs) by making some questionable life choices while we see a different, almost vulnerable side of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as he was held prisoner in last weeks episode by Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh). As they had a heart-to-heart (or the closest thing you can get to a heart-to-heart with Negan), he talked about his wife — something he barely does — and he said sorry that Simon (Steven Ogg) massacred the Scavengers. Meanwhile, Lincoln is out tracking down the Saviors with Morgan (Lennie James) and ends up murdering a bunch of them whilst connecting with Morgan as they have both lost sons.

But back to this weeks episode titled “Worth” — you would think that Dwights (Austin Amelio) head is on the chopping block considering the circumstances, but surprisingly it is not him who meets his demise — its Simon. Turns out Negan opts out of using Lucille on Simon and instead strangles him after he tries to take over the Saviors — which the barbed bat baddie obviously didnt like.

The death of Simon adds to the body count of a show that isnt shy when it comes to killing off its characters. Over the years, the AMC zombie thriller-dramahas had significant deaths in benchmark episodes. Case in point: fans nearly lost their minds when Chandler Riggs Carl died in the midseason opener. This week, Riggs returns in voiceover form as Rick reads the letter Carl left for him, advocating peace with Negan and the Saviors. Carl wrote a similar letter to Negan — but obviously, Negan wants nothing to do with peace.

April 15 marks the season 8 finale of The Walking Dead as well as the highly anticipated series crossover with and season 4 premiere of Fear the Walking Dead.
