After last weeks star-studded and “Stormy” cold open, Saturday Night Live decided to dial back on all the politics and celebrate Mothers Day…or at least they tried to.

In a precious and sweet cold open, many SNL cast members took some time on screen to pay gratitude to their mothers. One by one, they came out with their real-life moms and vowed. Aidy Bryants mom was excited to “rip it up” at the after party while Kenan Thompsons mom threw shade at how long he has been on the show. Melissa Villasenors mom supported her daughter by saying, “If youre not in a sketch, I dont watch it.”

Things started to take a turn when Mikey Days mom came out when they were reminiscing about his role in a past production of The Crucible. Thats when she compared the witch hunt in the play to the witch hunt for Donald Trump. Luke Nells mom said, “enough with the Trump jokes!” And then followed that with, “Why doesnt SNL talk about crooked Hillary?”

Chris Redds mom said, “I dont understand why everyone focuses on Trump when you should be focusing on Jesus.”

Redd responded, “Well, Jesus isnt President ma.”

To which she fired back, “And thats the problem.”

Kyle Mooneys mom said that political stuff gets old and then gushed over Kenans sketches instead of her own sons while Colin Josts mom complained about the mean stuff written about Trump. Jost blamed the writing on Michael Che.

The sketch ended with Beck Bennetts mom demanding the return of “Waynes World” and Pete Davidsons mom taking issue with all his penis jokes. Davidson responded that there will be no penis jokes tonight because “Mothers Day is all about vaginas!”
