When Tina Fey flew from Chicago to New York back in 1997 to join Saturday Night Live, smoking was still allowed on airplanes. Or so she remembers – the FAA might recall things differently – in this new promo for the upcoming Fey-hosted season finale of Saturday Night Live.

The animated clip has the cartoon Fey recalling her rise from SNL writer, to head writer, cast member (yes, theres a cartoon Jimmy Fallon too), then making some “other stuff” (30 Rock) and on to Broadways Mean Girls.

When the promo cuts back to the real Fey, she muses about how little Studio 8H has changed since the 1990s – leading to a punchline of sorts involving a crew member named Ronny. Or maybe Steve.

This weeks episode – the season finale – marks Feys sixth go-round as guest host, great timing as her Mean Girls Broadway musical is up for a slew of Tony Awards, including a nomination for Fey herself (best book of a musical). Mean Girls is playing at the August Wilson Theater.

Feys musical guest this weekend is Nicki Minaj, making her third SNL appearance.

Take a look at the new promo above.
