Arlene Phillips believes Craig Revel Horwood should be given wage increase for his loyalty to BBCs Strictly Come Dancing.

Craig has been on the show for 15 years, and recently spoke about Shirley Ballas wage being higher than his, despite her only being a judge for one series.

He told The Sun Online that the newbie should start her salary on something lower as she has never been on TV before.

And it looks as though his former co-star has got his back, as the Arlene agreed with his comment when asked what she thought about the situation on Lorraine.

She said: I do think experience counts, if youre on a show in the West End and you decide to stay on you get an increase every year for the experience that youve had.

Then when you go back to square on because you want to do a new show, you go back to everybodys starting salary – Your age doesnt carry weight.

She added: Hes been on the show for about 15 years and I think they should rise every year absolutely.

The 75-year-old concluded: But it is important that women do get the same pay – same job, same pay grade.

But also for experience – Craig has been there a long time and I think he deserves every penny.

According to The Sun Shirley was paid £180,000 for her first stint on the hit series last year.

However, it has now allegedly been increased by another £70,000 to what the former head judge Len Goodmans was on.

Craig expressed how he felt about the new salary to the publication, and revealed he thinks he should get paid more for his time on the show.

He said: The point about this pay thing is, yes, I think women should be paid the same as men. Thats for sure. But what would you say to a woman coming in after youve been in the job for 15 years when theyve done absolutely nothing to earn it? I dont think thats right.

Before adding: For instance Shirley Ballas in that way, youd expect she would start on something lower because shes never been on TV before, the shows been going for 14 years.
