Riverdales Lili Reinhart hits back at trolls after they try to shame her over body dysmorphia: You may not understand but respect it
Lili Reinhart has had enough of people trying to shame her for being open about her body dysmorphia ..
Lili Reinhart has found herself thrust into the international spotlight thanks to her breakout lead role in the CW and Netflixs Riverdale.
Following the incredible reception the drama received off the back of its 2017 debut, the 21-year-old actress has hit headlines thanks to her on-screen story arcs, relationship with co-star Cole Sprouse, and her own candid interviews.
Bravely putting herself out on a limb by talking about her own struggles with mental health and body dysmorphia, shes been very frank and clear where she stands on these issues – and how she still actively suffers from them.
Playing by her own rules has helped to make her a role-model for a whole new generation, but its also opened her up to even more trolls online than perhaps would be the case were she to play things by the book.
However, it seems that a recent spate of negativity about her looks and the fact shes speaking out about the issues like body dysmorphia seem to have been too much for her to keep quiet about.

Feeling really disheartened by the fact that so many people are saying “youre skinny so shut up about embrscing your body,” [sic] she vented on Twitter.
As if my body dysmorphia is irrelevant because of how I look to some people. Im either not curvy enough or not skinny enough to feel insecure.

Mental illness gets worse when people say that you dont have a right to feel the way you do. Thats where we are dailing. Do not encourage this behavior. It is destructive. More destructive than youll ever realize. You may not understand someones insecurity- but respect it.

She continued her train of thought in another tweet, adding: Mental illness gets worse when people say that you dont have a right to feel the way you do. Thats where we are failing.

We couldnt agree more.

Lili hasnt been afraid to put herself out there on the topic. Back in April she talked to Teen Vogue about the effect her cystic acne has had on her.
Honestly, its something that I still struggle with, she said about her long (and still on-going) journey to embracing her skin. The first time I got acne, I was in seventh grade and it made me develop a form of body dysmorphic disorder.
She continued: Actually, there is a specific kind of BDB associated with acne. Every time I have a big cystic pimple or something, it very much triggers that part of me where I dont want to look at myself in the mirror. Its hard to take pictures of myself, I dont want to go out in public, and I want to hide my face.
But, as Ive gotten older, its a matter of realizing that I cant let a pimple on my face decide what I do and where I go.
