Robson Green is set to make his singing return in the next episode of Age Before Beauty, which will have special musical sequences.
The BBC drama follows the exploits of a Manchester family and their struggling beauty salon business, which stars the likes of Su Johnston, Polly Walker, Lisa Riley and James Murray.
While the first episode was a relatively straight-forward tale of marital affairs, show creator Debbie Horsfield (Poldark, Cutting It), revealed at a Q&A how well be taking a musical plunge.
I started doing that in a previous series I had done where I worked with Jim actually called Cutting It, Debbie said.
They were just fantasy sequences which illustrated the theme of the episode, and I love to have a song and dance. I thought this is such a vibrant, colourful show, I wonder if we could do a similar thing.

Along with pre-existing songs, the sequences also feature original songs written for the show.

In one of the episodes we actually wrote a song which stars Wes (James Murray), in fact, we wrote a song for his sequence, Debbie said. Its not in every episode, but theres about three of them and theyre always great to do.
Speaking about his return to singing, Robson said: Its the comeback they said would never happen. Just when you thought Id hang up my microphone.
What was terrific, was me and Jim [Murray] in a studio. Were great friends now – we have a passion for fishing – and theres me and Jim in Abbey Road Studios recording a couple of numbers and then having a tour.
Its the surprises that Debbies constructed in this. Theres all these surprises throughout, and the singing and dancing was just great but my god it was spot the odd ones out because we had professional dancers around. It just was just great fun.
Age Before Beauty continues on Tuesday on BBC One at 9pm.
