Gareth Southgate managed to do the impossible and made the entire nation believe England were coming home with the World Cup, last month.

Before we lost to Croatia in the semi-finals and it ended up going home with France instead, that is…

But it seems as though when the 47-year-old isnt managing the national team, hes dreaming of starring in the Great British Bake Off.

Yes, seriously.

It looks like even World Cup glory in Russia couldnt compare to being inside Channel 4 tent, with sources claiming the former footballer is desperate to take part.

Gareth is obsessed with Bake Off. It would be a dream come true to get the chance to appear on the show, they reportedly told the Daily Star.

Although hed probably go to pieces meeting Prue and Paul.

To be fair to Gareth, they are pretty terrifying.

The trailer for the next series of the baking show was released earlier this week, featuring everything from cupcakes to Yorkshire puddings.

And fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the singing cakes from last years instalment have returned – to belt out Christina Aguileras Beautiful – along with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, and hosts Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig.

However, it was recently revealed there had been some changes to this years show.

Nope, that history segment is still hanging on, but the competition is going back to basics, in a bid to encourage viewers to join in.

So we might be getting some Gareth Southgate sponge cakes in the future after all.

Speaking about the upcoming series, Paul explained: This year we have gone back to basics on a couple of challenges because we were getting a bit over-complicated.

Sometimes its not just about the bakers in the tent, its about the people in the UK who watch the programme.

We want to encourage the viewers to bake.

The Great British Bake Off will return later this year.
