Riding high with his second consecutive Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series as Jack Pearson on NBCs smash hit This Is Us, Milo Ventimiglia is having his greatest television success to date in a career that has included numerous series including Heroes, The Gilmore Girls, Mob City, Chosen and lots of others. The role of Jack though, the father of three in a unique role that is seen in flashbacks, has catapulted him.

In a recent visit to the set of my Deadline video series The Actors Side, Ventimiglia talks about the challenge of keeping the role compelling — even as in the second season he actually had to do the episode in which Jack dies, the gut-wrenching “Super Bowl Sunday” — and the emotional toll it took to play it. In a normal TV series that would be enough to see a character written out, but not this one. Ventimiglia reveals there is much more of Jack to come, and talks about how he looks forward to exploring new facets of the character in future seasons including the upcoming third.

Ventimiglia also talks of his early days starting out (he grew up in Anaheim), past shows like Gilmore Girls and his recent revisit to that series when it was rebooted, his role opposite Sly Stallone as Rocky Jr. in 2006s Rocky Balboa, plus what the Emmy recognition means to him. Hes also moving again to the big screen these days with a choice role in the upcoming comedy Second Act starring Jennifer Lopez, and The Art of Racing in the Rain opposite Amanda Seyfried.
