Chas Dingle and Paddy Kirk are set to be left shattered as the day arrives where they have to say goodbye to their newborn daughter Grace in Emmerdale. But the soap will inject some scenes of hope and serenity among the tragedy as Paddy and Chas experience time with their child in their own heads.

With Chas going into premature labour, they are forced to try and prepare for the inevitable – but there really is no way to be ready for something as heartbreaking as this.

After Chas gives birth, their time with Grace is devastatingly brief as the countdown to her death gets underway.

Paddy and Chas share a quiet moment talking about all of the moments that Grace will miss out of and they are whisked away to a fantasy where they experience several stages of Graces life together with a sense of fleeting bliss.

As they emerge from their own minds, they share some final moments with baby Grace as she passes away in her mums arms and Chas and Paddy hold each other, unsure of how they will ever be able to move on from this.

Speaking about the very differently styled episode, Lucy Pargeter told Metro.co.uk: Its like a fantasy flash forward. So its Grace when she has just been born then at 1, at 4 and then 12. Its the kind of things they would have done with her if shed have still been around – its in their heads in the delivery room after shes just been born.

Theyre thinking about all of the things that they wont get to do with her. They kind of go there with her in their minds – it was traumatic but it was beautiful filming it. When you are pregnant, you do think about all of the things you are going to do with your child so its nice in a way to have been able to see some of that and the kids were absolutely gorgeous.

It was nice as when you have a tragic birth coming up, everything is so down so its good to think were not going to spend two weeks in a hospital crying, going through labour and birth and having absolutely harrowing times. The episode needs the lightness. We have had a massive build up of how awful it is going to be so to have that lightness is a relief. Its bittersweet to the audience and characters.
