Strictly Come Dancing has been praised by viewers for showing the first ever same-sex performance.

The cameras then panned back to reveal the other couples had switched partners, with Neil Jones and Kevin Clifton performing together, Katya Jones and Nadiya Bychkova, and Aljaz Škorjanec and Pasha Kovolev also dancing in pairs.

Well what a fantastic opening from @bbcstrictly, tweeted one fan while a second added: That pro dance was amazing AND same-sex couples dancing together? Its a yes from me.

Great pro dance on #Strictly then. Loved it! Needed more camera focus on Gorka/AJ though lol

AJ previously revealed that he has already begun rehearsing with fellow pro dancer Gorka: It had a paso doble/Argentine tango feel and we were technically dancing it together as a partnership.

The strength of having two males dancing — or two females — is unrivalled. Im dancing with Gorka, were doing lifts, were doing a concept thats not been done on the show before.
