Viewers of last nights Inside No 9 are still reacting to their epic live prank, which plunged BBC Two into darkness amid a technical fault.

Hours after the fact, which saw punters immediately voice their fury and frustration on Sunday night after the live episode was abruptly pulled off air due to loss of sound, social media is still going off as the tide has turned and theyre now hailing creators Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton geniuses for the risky move.

Risky in that many people admitted they switched the channel after believing the fault.

After realising it was all a gag and the show continued without a (deliberate) fault not long after, many compared it to Ghost Watch, as they shared their thoughts on it this morning.

And it really is a departure from last nights reaction…

Still thinking about #InsideNo9 today, always a good sign. Loved all the great details and nice touches and always wonderful to see Stephanie Cole on tv…although Pam Ferris is also very good ???

Its quite the departure as last night viewers were met with a grey screen and message only minutes into the live episode which read: We are sorry for the break in this programme and are trying to correct the fault.

They immediately took to social media wondering WTF was going on, before a voiceover said: Well Im really sorry and we have a few gremlins in the episode so we wont be able to continue with tonights episode, and insisted programmers were trying to rectify the issue behind-the-scenes.

Social media was awash with furious punters who were urging BBC to get their act together and fix the technical fault – before the episode began, which followed the haunted set of Granada Studios.

It transpired that the studio was sited on a Victorian mass grave – and the spirits really werent happy about having actors trampling all over their eternal place of rest. Everything quickly descended into chaos as Stephanie Cole became possessed, and things ended very badly for Pemberton and Shearsmith as they further investigated the studios and tried to figure out exactly what was going on.

It didnt end well for any of them – and it seems that judging from their Wikipedia entries afterwards, which listed a date of death the writers really had thought of everything.

And joke was on us all along and today we can only imagine iPlayer is getting quite the workout from curious viewers and fans who switched over all before making the realisation theyd been bamboozled.
