It was a controversial final that saw Rahul Mandal steal the title of Great British Bake Off winner 2018.

But runner-up Kim-Joy Hewlett was the happiest shed ever been on Tuesday night, despite viewers believing she was robbed by the real winner, Kolkata-born research scientist Rahul, 30.

Kim-Joy, 27, had been an outsider for the GBBO 2018 win, despite achieving two Star Baker accolades, but ultimately left the tent with more than a trophy.

A gracious loser, Kim-Joy also gave a hearty well done to Rahul on his unexpected win.

She continued: A special Congratulations Rahul!! I am so happy to have got to the final and I am just so proud of us all.

Kim-Joy then shared a picture of the group popping bottles in the green room.

Mental Health specialist Kim-Joy baked her way to the final with Rahul and Ruby Bhogal by creating some seriously cute, intricate eats, showcasing her love of cute creatures.

A tweet from the official GBBO account said: You have so much to be proud of, Kim-Joy! Youve packed more animals into your beautiful creations than Noah did in his Ark!

In Tuesdays final, the trio were first faced with a signature challenge to create a batch of doughnuts, before their technical saw the bakers forced outside the Bake Off tent for the first time.

They were challenged with creating pitta bread with three dips on an outside campfire, utilising a slate to cook them to perfection.

All of the contestants then closed the final with three showstoppers, including one based around the lost city of Atlantis and another an edible rock garden.
