Ashley Roberts has been given the first perfect score of the current series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Ashley and her professional partner Pasha Kovalev performed a Jive to Shake Ya Tail Feather by The Blues Brothers.

The pair landed a perfect 40 for the routine with all four judges giving them 10 points.

They were bowled over by the comments from the judges, with Bruno telling the pair: There are some performances that become part of Strictly history – you did just that.

Meanwhile Craig simply said: Fab-ul-ous.

It was also an emotional night for YouTube star Joe Sugg, who struggled to fight back the tears after performing a routine dedicated to his Nan, who was watching from the audience.

Joe and his professional partner Dianne Buswell performed a Quickstep to Dancin Fool by Copacabana as his nan Phyllis watched on from the audience.

The beautiful routine went down a storm with the judges, and he was awarded 10 points from Darcey Bussell, Shirley Ballas and Bruno Tonioli, with Craig Revel Horwood giving him an eight, making it a total of 38 points.

Darcey said to them: That was a grand performance – oh my goodness, a classic Quickstep. That was a stunning dance.

The high score made both Joe and Dianne emotional with the YouTube star desperately trying to stop himself crying as he took in the moment.

He held on tightly to Dianne and looked away from the camera as tears clearly came to his eyes.

Tess Daly had a chat with Phyllis before his performance, which took place at the famous Blackpool Tower, as she had seen a sneak peek of his routine before the live show.

Sat in the audience she told Tess that he was doing very well.

It was also an emotional night for another Strictly pair, Charles Venn and Karen Clifton, who landed their highest score so far for their Samba to La Bamba by Connie Francis.

Karen burst into tears at the score, 38, as it was her highest score so far after seven series on the show.

It was also the first time she had received 10s from the judges, with Shirley and Bruno giving them full marks while Craig and Darcy awarded them nines.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Sunday at 7.20pm on BBC One
