Get ready for the most miserable game show in the world. Jameela Jamil, known primarily to American audiences as Tahani on The Good Place, will soon host The Misery Index on TBS.
According to a press release, Jamil—a British native who cut her teeth across the pond, hosting delightfully titled programs including Freshly Squeezed, Koko Pop, and Playing It Straight—will serve as the ringleader on the new unscripted show, which is inspired by the card game Shit Happens. The competition involves two teams facing off to rate hilariously unpleasant real-life events and experiences on a scale of 1 to 100, and comparing their rankings to the shows “Misery Index”—a scale created by a team of therapists. In the end, whichever team rates the various hypothetical fiascoes closest to how therapists rated them will win.
Jamils Good Place co-stars are also filling out their dance cards, piling on other projects even as their acclaimed sitcom continues its third season. Kristen Bell, who plays Eleanor, is working on Frozen 2, as well as the upcoming Veronica Mars reboot. Darcy Carden, who plays the all-knowing Janet, also stars in Barry on HBO. William Jackson Harper, who plays Chidi, appeared in Jack Ryan earlier this year, and Manny Jacinto, who plays Jason, will appear in Top Gun: Maverick when it debuts in 2020.
In addition to Jamil, the Tenderloins comedy troupe and stars of truTVs Impractical Jokers—Brian “Q” Quinn, James “Murr” Murray, Joe Gatto, and Sal Vulcano—will also be on hand as recurring panelists. (Each team will comprise of one contestant and two Tenderloins.)
“As someone whose life is just a series of mortifying incidents strung together, its going to be brilliant to take a break from my own mishaps, and feast in the disasters of others,” Jamil said in a statement. “I cannot wait for the misery to commence.”
