Chris Noth Swears Mr. Big Wouldve Lived Through Sex and the City 3

Since it seems as though the world will never get a third Sex and the City movie, all the Carries, Samanthas, Mirandas, and Charlottes out there must rely on Internet gossip to learn all we can about that third, reportedly spectacular film script. What would have become of our favorite New York City characters? Would Carrie have embraced new fashion designers, the Notes app on her iPhone, and the Times Up movement? How would the girls have adjusted to the current president, a fixture on the New York social scene who once cameoed on their very show? Would they have experimented with dating apps, egg freezing, and Uber? Alas, all we know is the bombshell that the Origins podcast—hosted by James Andrew Miller, who is also a Vanity Fair contributor—dropped a few weeks ago: that the script killed off Carries on-again-off-again love interest, Mr. Big, played by Chris Noth.

The rumor required a grain of salt, considering it allegedly came from sources close to cast member Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha—and has famously expressed her opposition to making another S.A.T.C. film. The plot twist was cited as one of the main reasons Cattrall did not want to participate in Sex and the City 3—not because she hated the idea of the long-running character being killed off from the show, but because Mr. Bigs death would have taken up too much screen time.

“People close to Kim believe that the script for the movie didnt have a lot to offer the character of Samantha,” said Miller. “They point to the fact that it calls for Mr. Big to die of a heart attack in the shower relatively early on, making the remainder of the movie more about how Carrie recovers from Bigs death than about the relationships between the four women.”

This weekend, The Sun tracked down Noth in London to ask whether it was true that his character would have been killed off. And Noth, for his part, denied the rumor.

“Theres no way he was dying. That was all a lie,” Noth said.

Noth went on to claim that there is “no drama” between S.A.T.C.s supposedly squabbling cast members, and that there will be “no movie”—before suggesting that we all move on with our lives. The sooner we start understanding that there is no third Sex and the City film, he insisted, the better off well all be. “Its over. Its gone,” he said—presumably annoyed to be answering questions about a television character he hasnt played for nearly a decade.

This past October, Sarah Jessica Parker was asked whether she would do another movie if co-star Cattralls character was written out of the script. (Cattralls reluctance to reunite with Parker is reportedly the reason why the movie died last year.) But Parker did not love that solution, responding, “Not sure if I can imagine doing another movie without her. X.”
