Dont expect Paige Jennings to pick up the flag for Mother Russia any time soon and continue her parents undercover Soviet work in 1980s America.

This despite the fact that the industry still hasnt quit its love affair with FXs The Americans.

After landing four Primetime Emmy noms and two wins back in September for Outstanding Drama Writing and Drama Actor Matthew Rhys, the series created by Joe Weisberg and executive produced by Joel Fields earned three Golden Globe nominations this morning in the categories of Drama TV, Drama TV Actress (Keri Russell) and Drama TV Actor (Rhys). This raises the series total GG nom count to five after a nom each for Rhys and Russell last year.

While FX renewed The Americans for its final two seasons prior to the 2016 Presidential election and Russias meddling, do Weisberg and Fields have any regrets over ending the series too soon? The Russian probe is never-ending with CNN reporting today that Special Counsel Robert Mueller will potentially reveal new details about the countrys collusion with the U.S. election as his team meets a pair of court filing deadlines involving President Donald Trumps former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former lawyer Michael Cohen.

“Its nice to be asked that question,” Weisberg told Deadline, “But we always wrote the show in a bubble. The series is the story we firmly painted in the 1980s, and as interesting as the current headlines were, we couldnt let that influence our storytelling. The Audience would feel it and the spell would break.”

In regards to whether theres an Americans spinoff or not, Weisberg and Fields are still weighing their options as to what their next collaboration will be, and when they decide, theyd like to bring the shows below-the-line/creative team with them on their new project. Weisberg and Fields are currently executive producing (but not show-running) the Freeform pilot Breckman Rodeo (working title) about young rodeo riders in Cheyenne, Wyoming which was created by Weisbergs assistant Steve Lerner. The pilot is currently shooting in New Zealand.

In the meantime, Fields is working on FXs untitled Fosse/Verdon eight-episode limited series which stars Oscar winner Sam Rockwell and Oscar nominee Michelle Williams. Tony award-winning producers Thomas Kail, Steven Levenson and Lin-Manuel Miranda are also aboard and currently Fields is writing the 7th episode with the first two episodes wrapped and the third currently shooting.
