Warning: Contains spoilers for Narcos: Mexico.

Diego Luna and Scoot McNairy will reprise their roles for Narcos: Mexico season two, which will chart the fallout of a certain characters tragic death.

Its been confirmed Luna, who played drug lord Miguel Felix Gallardo, will return for the second season of the Netflix show –playing opposite McNairys DEA agent Walt Breslin who was introduced in the first seasons final scene.

McNairy is set to essentially replace Michael Penas DEA agent Kiki Camarena, who is notoriously tortured and killed at the hands of the Guadalajara cartel after chasing their backhand dealings a little too closely.

Production recently kicked off on the shows second season, with a release date expected in 2019.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter before the shows renewal, showrunner Eric Newman said: If its the end, [McNairys introduction] is just the continuing revolving doors of, “Here comes the new guy and this time were going to get it right.”

Weve now seen that with agents Murphy {Boyd Holbrook} and Pena (Pedro Pascal) in seasons one and two, Pena alone in season three, Kiki Camarena in Narcos: Mexico, and now a new guy, who is basically going to come down and probably get nothing done and the cycle will continue.

Of course, if we do continue thats something we could explore. What both the archival footage and narrator voiceover does is that it reminds people that its real. You realize, “Oh, that happened.”

While Narcos: Mexico felt like familiar territory for the series as a whole, it did just enough to keep the formula fresh – with Diego Luna and Michael Pena both serving as worthy successors.

A second outing gives the show greater opportunity to find its own identity, so we cant wait to see what gets cooked up with Luna and McNairy on board.

Narcos: Mexico is available to stream on Netflix.
