Saoirse Ronan has already traded her Mary Queen of Scots corset for a corncob pipe, in a Polaroid from the Boston set of Greta Gerwigs Little Women remake. Ronan, who plays Jo March, is joined by Emma Watson (Meg), Florence Pugh (Amy), Eliza Scanlen (Beth), and Gerwig herself. The cast is outfitted in March sister accessories—suspenders, bows, and old-timey hats—as Timothée Chalamet, reuniting with his Lady Bird director, Gerwig, and co-star Ronan to play Laurie, leans into frame.

Watson shared the Polaroid on her Twitter page, alongside a line from Little Women author Louisa May Alcott: “I could never love anyone as I love my sisters.” Cast members not pictured include Meryl Streep (who plays Aunt March), Laura Dern (Marmee March), Bob Odenkirk, and Chris Cooper. (It has not yet been announced which characters Odenkirk and Cooper will play.)

Gerwig originally boarded the project to work on the script, before being hired to direct. Producer Robin Swicord, who wrote the 1994 Little Women adaptation, told the L.A. Times, “Greta has a wonderfully associative, well-furnished mind. Her take on the novel more than convinced us that we could bring something new to the screen.”

The film, which will open in theaters on Christmas 2019, focuses on the March sisters lives after Meg, Jo, and Amy leave home—flipping in time between the girls childhood and their paths as young women forging their own identities.

“Its really taking a look at what it is for a young woman to enter the adult world,” Swicord said. “Its a clear-eyed approach to the challenges women face as they try to bravely move into new situations.”
