Vijay Sethupathi's Seethakaathi opened on December 20 to mixed reviews. The Indian Express film critic S Subhakeerthana noted in her review, "Despite an engaging screenplay, Seethakaathi just doesnt come together as a cohesive whole. Part of the problem, I think is the core idea. Maybe, I couldnt connect with Ayya. You either connect or you dont. There are no in-betweens. Seethakaathi affects us, impacts us, and attempts to move us. But the attempt isnt wholly achieved."
