Black Mirror fans dont have long to wait for the new installment.

It became apparent a movie-length instalment of the show is set to land on Netflix this week.

Details of the latest entry into the Black Mirror canon dropped on to the streaming service just days ago – confirming that the mysteriously-titled Bandersnatch is on the way.

But its all still a bit mysterious – and just what is Bandersnatch anyway?

Heres what you need to know…

When is Black Mirror Bandersnatch due for release?

Information about the release has come from the most unlikely places

According to Netflix, the movie will be released on December 28th.

The streaming service mysteriously revealed its existence last week, after a listing appeared lining it up for release on that date.

The intrigue deepened after details emerged in, of all places, the Korean Media Ratings Board, which shows a number of details about the film – with the info doing the rounds on Reddit.

Not an awful lot, although it appears to be listed as 312 minutes in length (over five hours long) – which suggests it could be the choose your own adventure movie which was rumoured earlier this year.

The lengthy running time would potentially take in all the potential story strands depending on what decisions viewers make for the key characters in the film.

Who is in the cast?

According to the Korean Media Ratings Board listing, Dunkirk star Fionn Whitehead is among the stars – while Miley Cyrus appears to have also confirmed her involvement during a recent interview with Howard Stern.

The Wrecking Ball singer said she filmed on the Netflix series at the time wildfires raged through her Malibu home.

Asked if she was going to appear in season five, Miley told Stern: If you guess it, then I will shake my head “yes”, and Stern revealed she had nodded.

What is Bandersnatch?

Bandersnatch is a fictional creature first brought to life in Lewis Carrolls 1872 novel Through The Looking-Glass. It was then rebirthed in his 1874 poem The Hunting Of The Snark.

However Bandersnatch was also the name of a computer game which was developed in 1984 but never actually released.

And with the Black Mirror episode also reportedly set in 1984 (given away by a photo from the set which showed Bob Marleys album Legend at number one in the charts) – could there possibly be a connection?

We reckon well know soon enough…

Okay, what about a trailer?

Bandersnatch focuses on a team of computers geeks in the 80s, who plan to create a game based on a book that was never released, after the author went insane and killed his wife.

Lead character Stefan is brought on board to help create the game, and send the start-up company into the stratosphere with its original concept.

However, soon he receives warning that their fate has been dictated, theyre no longer in control and the companys employees are soon heading off into their own world of insanity.

As they slowly descend into madness and try to regain themselves, the freakishly upbeat soundtrack of Frankie Goes to Hollywoods Relax plays in the background.

Somehow we think whats hitting the charts will be the least of their problems.
