Where has Alice Morgan been in Luther? Finally we have answers but at a big cost

Alice Morgan is back. Luther season five episode one closed on the news fans have been waiting actual years for as the assassin knocked on Johns door for a cup of tea and chocolate digestive. But at a huge cost.

Dont pretend youre not pleased to see me? she grinned, before the credits rolled.

But tonight it transpired wed actually seen Alice before. You just didnt know it.

Tonights second instalment of the series opened two years ago with Alice shifting some dodgy diamonds in Antwerp, Germany, which belonged to London crime boss George Cornelius.

She got jacked, George was playing her all along, and she ran off with his goods and has been in hiding ever since, which is fair.

Then last night we saw the GC (not that one) pull out a shotgun and start firing at a hooded figure in a very aesthetically pleasing outdoor swimming pool.

And that hooded figure was in fact Alice, who demanded her money back and then some.

Now shes back to wrap his knuckles, which later turned out to mean kidnapping his son, releasing his son and then killing his son in his sleep.

But what about Jalice? Theres more sexual tension here than an episode of Love Island.

And while we tried to catch our breath, theres still a killer on the loose, arguably Luthers most sadistic target yet.

Psychiatrist Vivien Lake has been protecting her patient James Houser, with John and DC Catherine Halliday believing hes now mutilated at least three victims. The less said about the night bus the better.

But tonight we learned James was just a pawn and the killer hiding behind a hood of LED lights is actually her husband Jeremy, a much more sinister beast.

His latest offering was a particularly grim tale. James, a doctor, told his patient how he was going to kill her on the operating table in mercilessly graphic detail, who then, albeit sufficiently alarmed, went along with it anyway.

Thankfully, he caved.

Later we saw him claim another helpless case, bursting into her flat, covering her mouth and then the rest has been left to your imagination. For now.

Luther continues tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One.
