Jeremy Clarkson joked hed undergone a transgender operation after wading into a cold river to rescue his car.

The Grand Tour hosts had to trek across Mongolia for a special episode of The Grand Tour, surviving on basic rations and – even worse – no alcohol.

In the new episode, out today, Jeremy, James May and Richard Hammonds makeshift car comes to a grinding halt in the water after hitting a boulder three-quarters of the way through their mission.

Worried that their car was going to be a write off, Jeremy and James were tasked with getting behind the vehicle to free up the rear wheels.

Hopping out of the partly submerged car, Jeremy lands waist deep in the freezing water and cries out: Holy s***! Ive just had a transgender operation!

James joins him in the river soon after and screams in shock.

However Richard stays firmly inside the car and watches his two burlier co-hosts get to work trying to shift the rock.

Jeremy asks him: Are you alright Hammond in there?

Richard replies: Im not getting in there. Im from Birmingham Im not good with water.

As the car threatens to sink even further due to the strong current, its a race against time for hosts to free the car and get on their way to a pub.

Fans should expect more episodes similar to this one, called Survival Of The Fattest, going forward, as producer Andy Wilman believes the Mongolia outing is not just the best Special of the series but one of the best we have done in many a year.

Praising Jeremy, Richard and James chemistry, he told Radio Times: through all the pain and struggle…they are absolutely on their A game when it comes to delivering the wit and the laughs.

He added that the finale of the episode will be the last conventional show before they pull down the curtain on the studio-based episodes, delivering the fans just banter-heavy specials from now on.

Each presenter has described the Mongolia trek as one of the most difficult, gruelling and arduous journeys theyve taken on so far.
