If you still use a DVR, you may have noticed it getting very full lately. Over the space of just a few weeks this spring, many of the most critically acclaimed and awards-strewn shows currently airing are returning, from the second season of BBC Americas breakout hit Killing Eve to a certain HBO juggernaut called Game of Thrones. Its a busy season on TV, for precisely the same reason that November and December are stuffed with high-quality movies—the deadline for 2019 Emmys eligibility is June 1, which means every network with awards hopes wants their best shows at the top of voters minds when the ballots go out.

On this weeks episode of the Little Gold Men podcast, Vanity Fair TV critic Sonia Saraiya joins Richard Lawson, Katey Rich, and Joanna Robinson to take a look at the biggest recent TV premieres, including the return of HBOs Barry and Veep and the upcoming premieres of Killing Eve Season 2 and Fosse/Verdon. They also have a larger conversation about the Emmys race as a whole, which might wind up saying more about which shows arent included than the ones that are. In a time with so much TV to watch, how can even the best stuff really hope to compete?

Take a listen to the episode above, and find Little Gold Men on Apple Podcasts, Radio.com, or anywhere else you get your podcasts.
