If you still use a DVR, you may have noticed it getting very full lately. Over the space of just a few weeks this spring, many of the most critically acclaimed and awards-strewn shows currently airing are returning, from the second season of BBC Americas breakout hit Killing Eve to a certain HBO juggernaut called Game of Thrones. Its a busy season on TV, for precisely the same reason that November and December are stuffed with high-quality movies—the deadline for 2019 Emmys eligibility is June 1, which means every network with awards hopes wants their best shows at the top of voters minds when the ballots go out.
