A quick-thinking firefighter saved four frightened ducklings from a storm drain by coaxing them out with a YouTube clip of ducks quacking.

The ingenious emergency responder held his phone up to a pipe too narrow for a person to climb up, with the animal sounds soon luring the baby ducks out.

An impressed colleague said: Nice! Did you play baby duck sounds? That is genius.

They were gently placed into a cardboard box after being plucked from the concrete hole in Centennial, Colorado, on Thursday.

Firefighters from South Metro Fire Rescue were able to get four other ducks out of the storm drain just by lifting its grate off.
