A mother has been charged over the death of her unborn baby after a fight broke out with another woman.
Marshae Jones, 27, was shot in the stomach by Ebony Jemison, 23, while five months pregnant in December 2018.
However because Jones initiated the fight and continued to lash out at Jemison a jury in Birmingham, Alabama, decided that she should be indicted over the babys death.
Police found that she was at fault because she initiated the fight with Jemison who was acting in self defence in a row about the babys father.
Pleasant Grove Police Lieutenant Danny Reid said: The investigation showed that the only true victim in this was the unborn baby.
It was the mother of the child who initiated and continued the fight which resulted in the death of her own unborn baby.
Despite firing the shot, Jemison was cleared by a jury.
