There was drama and a lot of comedy in this episode of Holby City. The drama came from the continuing tension between Cameron (Nic Jackman) and just about anybody, really, although he has a particular problem with the increasingly nasty Evan (Jack Ryder). The comedy came from some glorious scenes between Henrik Hanssen (Guy Henry) and Carole Copeland (Julia Deakin), and the very wonderful Scary Sue from AAU (Angela Lonsdale).

Cameron at the moment seems like a lost soul. His best friend is Nicky (Belinda Owusu), but as theyre so often competing against each other and Cameron hasnt been averse to a bit of back-stabbing previously, that relationship is not as close as it could be. Hes in love with Chloe (Amy Lennox), but she only has eyes for Evan. And Evan is using this knowledge to isolate Cameron further and generally make his life a misery.

Camerons reaction to Kian (Ramin Karimloo) leaving Nicky on her own to complete the operation they were doing was correct – as Hanssen said, This is not an accepted teaching practice. But Camerons feelings were also muddled by jealousy that Nicky had been given the case that hed started working on and by his own insecurity. A move to AAU might be the best thing for him – but will it get Evan off his back?

You need a strong stomach to work on AAU, particularly this week when Serena (Catherine Russell) had noticed a nasty smell. Im getting wafts, she said in theatre and suggested that Zav (Marcus Griffiths) might need a shower. Its not actually me, its my vest, he helpfully explained. He keeps leaving his clothes in the washing machine and forgetting to dry them. His vest made an appearance later, as Zav and Scary Sue got locked in a room in the basement with a seriously ill patient who needed bandages. Get that top off, said Sue. Are you sure? Zav said. Apparently it smells of damp.

Sue took the opportunity to share some of her relationship wisdom with Zav while they waited to be rescued. She pointed out that the mistake he was making with Donna (Jaye Jacobs) was to think that making a big gesture of love was all that was needed. Via a metaphor to do with house-building, Sue pointed out that True love – thats what happens at the end, not the beginning. Zav took her words to heart, and later on was able to get Donna to agree to give their relationship another go.

The pairing of Carole Copeland and Henrik Hanssen in so many scenes in this episode was absolute genius. Theyre total opposites – hes formal, proper and cerebral, and shes spontaneous, unfiltered and down-to-earth. Hanssen had to go to Carole to collect a temporary security pass after he lost his. Nobodys going to impersonate you – youre unique, she told him. Unless they wore stilts. Hanssens face as Carole explained her Admin Plus system to him and tried to take his photograph while a queue formed behind him was priceless.
