Netflix floored fans of The OA yesterday when they announced the trippy sci-fi had been axed after two seasons despite emerging as one of the most exciting shows of the past decade.

Season two was met with a resounding thumbs up from both fans and critics as the Brit Marling series delved into an unexpected new chapter, shaping up to be the boldest creation Netflix has ever birthed.

Alas, despite a cliff-hanger promising a ground-breaking season 3, well never get to see it – unless fans have their say as already a petition has launched amassing more than 10,000 signatures to save The OA overnight.

A campaign on change.org, titled Save The OA, Renew The OA for season 3 reads: ”The OA” has just been cancelled by Netflix on August 5th: the exact date for which its online fanbase had planned an online #RenewTheOA campaign, requesting for Netflix to renew it for at least a third season.

The Netflix Original series ran for two seasons with a total of 16 episodes. The show has received great critical acclaim, also reaching an 80+ score on Rotten Tomatoes for both seasons.

During its run the OA has generated a large and dedicated fanbase and what some might call a cult following online; a subreddit with over 40,000 subscribers, countless theories, fan-videos, fan-art, flashmobs and much more.

To all of its fans around the world The OA means way more than all those profit-driven executives at Netflix could ever imagine. This marvel of unique storytelling that has touched and connected so many can not remain unfinished. Therefore, we collectively pledge for The OA to be given a chance to finish her story… because we were all listening, so very closely.

The series was initially planned for a 5 season run with Netflix and for the reasons stated above we feel it needs to be given justice in the form of a renewal or a final conclusion. The creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij deserve to continue their beautiful story, be it on Netflix or through another service that is willing to pick it up.
