The 45-minute special Static Cling sees Rocko and his friends Heffer and Filburt track down Rachel Bighead, formerly known as Ralph in the 90s series.

Rachel went on a journey to find herself since the cartoon ended and lost touch with her parents Mr and Mrs Bighead.

When Rachel is found, she is working from an ice cream truck inspired by the show she created, the Fatheads, Rockos favourite programme.

While Rachels transition from male to female is no big deal for Rocko, Mr Bighead initially struggles with the change in his life.

However he comes to realise that his love for his child is unconditional.

Series creator Joe Murray told Entertainment Weekly that the story arc felt natural, because it was not only about change, about somebody finding who they are and making that courageous choice to go through that change.

The show consulted with GLAADs director of transgender representation Nick Adams on the episode, who added: This story of inclusion and acceptance is so needed in our current climate.

I worked with the shows creators to ensure that Rachel was drawn in a respectful way, so that her femininity wasnt a joke.

We also talked about how to portray the moment Rachel reveals her transition to the boys so that it wasnt sensationalistic.

Rockos Modern Life originally ran for four seasons on Nickelodeon from 1993 to 1996.

Rockos Modern Life: Static Cling drops Friday on Netflix.
