An elderly cancer patient was found with maggots crawling out of his ears shortly before his death in a nursing home.
John Callaghan begged his wife to take him home after spending two weeks at the Bupa Tugun Aged Care facility in Australias Gold Coast.
His widow Fay, 83, said she was disgusted to find her husband in such a poor condition when she visited him in 2017.
She said: He wasnt an easy man to look after, he was in great pain and was battling cancer in his ear, but when I came to visit him maggots were crawling out of his ears.
Mrs Callaghan added that her husband wasnt fully aware of the conditions he was living in, but told his wife: This is a terrible place its dreadful. They dont look after you. Please get me out.

Ten days after raising the alarm to his family, Mr Callaghan died at the nearby Hopewell Hospital.
In a statement to Metro.co.uk, a Bupa Australia spokesperson said: This was a serious but isolated incident which occurred in 2017. The issue was quickly addressed by nurses at the home and Mr Callaghan was transferred to the local hospital.
Were very sorry that this incident occurred and apologised to Mr Callaghan and his family. Weve since made a number of improvements in the home to prevent such an issue from happening again.
The home is fully compliant with all Australian aged care standards and, in the two years since the incident, its passed five external audits by the Australian regulator.
Bupa Australia added that Mr Callaghan had ear cancer and an existing fungating wound on the left side of his head when he arrived at the facility in October 2017 and was transferred to hospital 12 Read More – Source
