Things got heated this morning during a debate on same-sex couples dancing on Strictly, as Piers Morgan labelled an MP a bigoted dinosaur.

Thatll liven up your Tuesday morning.

Jim Wells, politician and member of the DUP, called same-sex couples on the dancing show a retrograde step, and found it unfortunate to see the BBC show work to incorporate more same-sex dance routines into the ballroom programme.

He tried to get his point across to baffled hosts Good Morning Britain Piers and Susanna Reid, as he said: Its wonderful family viewing and I think that this decision will change that considerably and I dont see why the BBC has broken its policy on this.

It appeared he had a problem with the potential same-sex dancing pre-9pm watershed, as Jim continued: Its family viewing. Youve had a busy week and the last thing you want is to be challenged…

On children seemingly finding issue with same-sex dancers, he said: Theyll be asking, “why are the two men or the two women dancing?”

Piers was perplexed as he replied: Really you think young children think like that?

Susanna chimed in, as she said: What if those children are sitting down with two mums or two dads? […] Children live in all sorts of situations.

Jim insisted after the watershed then parents will know they can watch TV without fear of being challenged by such radical views.

What time would you think gay people could be seen on television without feeling challenged? Piers asked, as Jim said Strictly judges arent branded as gay, so hes okay with them being on the tellie pre-9pm.

Piers added: Heres what I think is going on. Youre just an old bigoted dinosaur, thats whats going on, and you feel challenged in having scary gay people around you.

By the way, there is one right next to you [in Strictly pro Robin Windsor], the whole time youve been talking youve been in proximity with a gay man.

Susanna said: Have you ever seen children dancing, you do know when children are little they dance together. There is nothing challenging about it.

Your concern is only about seeing gay couples, its not about seeing same-sex couples. And its not about children.

She added: BBC Strictly Come Dancing is trying to trying to reflect modern society which is that same-sex couples exist.

He even felt gay storylines on Coronation Street pre-Watershed wasnt acceptable: If it makes it difficult for parents to watch…I think youll find there will be a lower viewership.

Former Strictly pro Robin Windsor was there as he weighed in.

Thats absolutely disgrace[ful], you see in all sorts of television shows, there are gay people in society everywhere…why not Strictly Come Dancing? he said.

He added: Ive grown up with women dancing together, there are hundreds of thousands of all-girl couples around this country and they should be represented.

You find back in the war times while all the men were at war the ladies would dance together. Your mother would probably be dancing with another woman because there were no men.

Jim insisted he was not homophobic, however Robin replied: I respectfully disagree.

Robin added: How would you feel if your children were gay? to which Jim emphatically replied: Theyre not.

The politician then turned on Piers and accused him of attacking him, something which Piers denied, as he said: Im insulting your bigotry, which is irrational, inconsistent, makes no sense whatsoever.

Your favourite shows have loads of gay presenters…but you dont want two people who may not even be gay dancing together.

As Jim enthused the hosts shouldnt be biased towards a certain side in a GMB debate, Susanna retorted: How can you be impartial about homosexuality?

Piers weighed in: I should be neutral about your bigotry? Thats not how it works.
