The owner of the castle used to film Downton Abbey has opened up about how the show wreaks havoc on her home when production takes place.

Lady Carnarvon, who lives at Highclere Castle, appeared on This Morning, where she spoke about what goes on behind the scenes.

And although she is in love with the ITV drama, she did say things get a big messy.

Chatting to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, she said: You dont see the glamour.

You just see the computer village and cameras everywhere, and people in black parkas. And you see, the people they open every single window in February.

Laughing, Fiona added: And they say, “oh its so cold how do you live here?” And its like, “we dont open all the windows.”

However, despite the inconvenience, that hasnt stopped her from being a fan.

Praising the writer Julian Fellowes, she added: We didnt know how successful it could be, I also knew Julian so I thought if I was really unhappy I could sit down and have a conversation, but I trusted them.

Julian has a brilliant way, and we all fall in love with the characters.

Later this month the Downton Abbey movie will be released, and Lady Carnarvon confessed shes still yet to see it.

Julian Fellowes will be taking the reigns and has written the script for the next installment of the Crawleys.
