Gemma Atkinson has opened up about her terrifying C-section after welcoming her baby Mia Louise with her boyfriend Gorka Marquez.

The 34-year-old revealed that she tried for a water birth and later was induced but nothing was happening.

Recalling the horrifying experience, Gemma added: With every contraction, Mias heart-rate dropped.

While Mia thankfully arrived safely, Gemma started to feel unwell after giving birth.

Because I was numb from the epidural, I couldnt feel any bleeding, she explained on Loose Women before Gorka added: The whole bed was completely red.

A few hours later I had a hemorrhage. It was like someone had switched a light switch.@MissGAtkinson and @gorkamarquez1 share the shocking story of Gemmas traumatic birth to daughter Mia. pic.twitter.com/szxmq7QLQl

The soap star went on to add that her mum moved in with her to help, pointing out: It made me appreciate how many people do it on their own.

Gemma has been incredibly open about the realities of giving birth and mum life after baby Mia with her Strictly star boyfriend back in July.

She later opened up about the traumatic birth, explaining that shed suffered from a horrific hemorrhage which left the pair terrified.

Gorka got a doctor and she took 1 look at me & again pressed the panic button. I was having a hemorrhage, she recalled in an Instagram post.

A big one & I lost a lot of blood. I dont remember much other than having around 9 doctors in the room, some injecting me, hooking me to drips, physically pulling clots out of me & one comforting Gorks who was beside himself in the corner.

However, the former Hollyoaks star has still had to defend herself after she was told she didnt have a proper labour.

A lady recently joked with me that Id had the easy option when it came to having Mia as I didnt experience “proper labour” she wasnt being nasty, she said it in jest and she was actually really lovely, but it did get me thinking when I got home. Had I failed? Had I not done it “properly”? Gemma, 34, wrote on Instagram.

After a good chat with myself I came to the conclusion that the only “proper” way to have a baby is the way thats safest for you and your baby.
