Piers Morgan blames Sam Smith for Brit Awards axing male and female categories: The women will suffer

Piers Morgan believes Sam Smith is to blame for the Brit Awards reportedly axing their male and female gender categories after the singer announced they are using they and them pronouns to describe their non-binary identity.

The Stay With Me singer came out as non-binary in March but has now confirmed they are no longer using male and female pronouns to identify themselves.

Reports have now emerged that the Brits are planning to scrap gender categories for their 2020 awards to accommodate non-binary performers like Sam.

Reacting to the news on Mondays episode of Good Morning Britain, Piers described the news as nonsense and suggested the awards bosses have been spurred on by Sams recent announcement.

I think its great that so much time on awards should be wrecked like this because one guy cant decide if hes male or female, Piers said.

They want to accommodate non-binary performers like Sam Smith, which is what I said last week, which category will he now enter? He wont have to, hell now enter the non-binary categories.

The outspoken TV presenter went on to predict that scrapping the categories will negatively impact female performers, as he believes men will still win the bulk of awards.

Piers explained: Ill tell you what will happen, itll be like womens sport decimating. Women will suffer eventually.

I suspect what will happen is male performers will end up winning all of the awards than the women. The whole point of having the gender categories is to make it fair and equal, now were going the other way and that apparently is progress. I think its a load of nonsense.

He continued: The idea that you have change entire award categories because one guy decides one day to wake up and say Im non-binary, its nonsense.

Referring to Sam using male pronouns, Piers added: All respect to him if he wants to do that, no problem. If you want to do that Sam Smith, thats on your dime. You do what the hell you like. Dont change everything else for you.

But maybe Im wrong.

Revealing the Brit Awards plans, a source told The Sun: Bosses are listening to changes happening in the industry. The categories will evolve in the coming years.
