With Delhi police help, govt starts evicting ex-MPs from bungalows

NEW DELHI: The government has started evicting some of the former MPs who have stuck to their official accommodations citing a range of reasons such as children studying in Delhi, a family member undergoing medical treatment at a local hospital, or those who claimed they have been unable to find alternative accommodation in the city. Sources said the urban affairs ministry has got a couple of flats and bungalows evicted with police support.
Till Friday, nearly 50 former lawmakers, mostly from the last Lok Sabha, had not vacated their accommodation even after being served eviction notices a few days back. Sources said the list included Pappu Yadav, Ranjeeta Ranjan, Deepender Singh Hooda, Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma and MP CM Kamal Nath .
The Centre is likely to allow BJP veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi to retain their bungalows on security grounds. Similarly, former BJP MP from Chhattisgarh, Ramesh Bais, who has been appointed Tripura governor, is likely to be allowed to retain his earlier accommodation.
