HAL workers to go on indefinite strike from Monday

NASHIK: Around 19,000 workers from nine units of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) will go on an indefinite strike from Monday to press their demand for fair and early settlement of wage revision.
The workers unions on Sunday decided to go with its pre-planned strike from Monday after the meeting between the co-ordination committee of All India HAL Trade Unions and the HAL management failed to reach any consensus.
Of nine units, Ozar unit near Nashik city is the second large unit of HAL in the country with 3,500 permanent employees after Bangalore unit having 9,000 employees.
The Nashik unit of HAL manufactures SU-30 aircrafts and it manufactures 12 units per annum. Moreover, Nashik unit of HAL is also engaged in overhauling both MiG 21 and SU-30.
The employees have been demanding fair hike in salary. While the executives got up to 35% rise in gross salary, the HAL workers were offered up to 8% hike in salaries. Hence, workers wanted fair revision of salary.
“We had meeting with the company management for the past two days, but they were not ready to give it over 8% gross hike. We want the gross salary hike of 35% as given to executives and officials of the company,” said Sachin Dhomse, secretary, Nashik unit of HAL employees union.
While allowances in cafeteria system for officials have been hiked up to 35%, the management has offered only 22% to employees, but employees also want the same 35% like officials.
Moreover, Fitment benefit hike to officials is 15%, but management has offered only 11% to workers. The workers also want the same 15% Fitment benefit.
