Girls can join Sainik schools from 2021-22

In a move for gender equality in the male-dominated environs of the over 15-lakh-strong armed forces, defence minister Rajnath Singh has okayed a proposal to admit girls in Sainik schools from the 2021-22 session in a phased manner.
The decision was taken after the success of the pilot project – girls were admitted in the Sainik School in Mizoram's Chhingchhip two years ago.
