As online gaming catches on in India, nearly 29% people in the country with access to the internet said that they play online games daily, with 31% men and 27% women saying this, according to a recent survey by YouGov India with around 925 respondents.
Apart from the daily gamers, more than 26% of the respondents said that they play these games on a weekly basis. The survey also noted that residents in eastern India were most likely to keep playing these games (76%), unlike those from western India (45%). A majority of active gamers spend fewer than three hours a week on these games (52%), and nearly a third (30%) devote between 3 to 5 hours a week to them.
Significantly, women spent as much time on online real money games as men. The percentage of women (55%) who spend less than 3 hours a week on these games is higher than men (50%), as it is for those who spend between five to seven hours a week (9% vs 7%). The number of men (31%) and women (29%) is also nearly the same for people who invest between 3 to 5 hours weekly on online games. In fact, at 64%, the figures for women in tier-3 cities spending up to 3 hours a week on online games was higher than women in tier-1 and tier-2 cities, which were at 52% and 54% respectively.
