NEW DELHI: Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, Supreme Court judge and a leading religious scholar, spoke on Saturday about 'Reincarnation and a Comparative Religious Perspective', drawing a parallel between various faiths and the importance of karma in life.
Speaking at the 7th Dr L M Singhvi Memorial lecture here, Justice Nariman delved into the realm of karma saying that karma model tends to explain everything. He talked about passive and active karma – passive karma is all about what you did in the past life while active karma is about what you are doing in the present life which accounts for everything happening in your life. While life, wife, children and death are all predestined, he said citing scriptures, but the karma model tends to explain a lot about what is happening now.
Justice Nariman, who is an avid reader of history, philosophy, literature and science and was an ordained priest from Bandra Agiary, exhibited his indepth knowledge of various religious scriptures. The audience consisted of a galaxy of present and former judges of Supreme Court, high courts and legal luminaries. Former West Bengal governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi and senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi were on the dais.
