NEW DELHI: After seven-hour-long debate, the Lok Sabha on Monday passed the

Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB)

with 311 members favouring it and 80 voting against it.
The Bill seeks to provide Indian citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Zorastrian communities coming from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan after facing religious persecution there.

Now, the Bill will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha for its nod.
