NEW DELHI: In a pandemic situation, consumers usually think of fulfilling basic needs. But sneakerheads, who collect sneakers as a hobby, are a different breed.
When German sportswear maker Adidas launched Yeezy 700, V3 Alvah, online earlier this week, thousands of sneakerheads camped out all night in front of their phones and computers to lay their hands on the 200 pairs that were on offer for the Indian market. Despite several websites like Adidas India, VegNonVeg and Superkicks crashing, the shoes were sold out within minutes, a senior executive said.
“After two hours of waiting and many failed attempts, I could finally buy a pair,” said Aditya Bhalla, a businessman from New Delhi, whose sneakers collection includes shoes ranging from as high as Rs 4 lakh to a few thousands of rupees of top brands such as Nike, Puma and Asics.
