KATE GARRAWAY – presenter and host of Good Morning Britain – has vowed she and her family will “NEVER” give up on her husband Derek Draper who has been critically ill for 10 weeks after contracting coronavirus.

Kate Garraway, 53, has shared a statement on Father’s Day regarding her husband Derek Draper, 52, who remains in a coma in intensive care after contracting coronavirus in March. The Good Morning Britain presenter stated on Instagram she and her family will “NEVER” give up on her partner despite the “ghastly long road that lies ahead”.

Alongside pictures of her father Gordon, Derek’s dad Ken, and Derek himself, Kate began to write to her 855,000 Instagram followers today: “Happy Fathers Day to all the wonderful Daddys out there. A tough day for us but am filled with so much love & gratitude to still have for my Dad ‘Trinity’ – that’s my Dad Gordon, Dereks dad Ken and of course Derek himself ( officially the Best Dad in the World according to Darcey & Billy.) all three of them never happier than when they are with their children.

“Im so grateful to have you still in our lives – & know so many today dont have that. But the love is there – no separation can change that.

“Thank you so much for all your kind messages of support after my interviews with GMB and The Sun a couple of weeks ago,” she continued.

“Am sorry have not posted recently. I just needed a little time. They were incredibly emotional experiences & to be honest left me with a range of feelings – gratitude to @itv & @janemoore for giving me the chance to let all who so touchingly care for Derek know what he is up against but also rather overwhelmed by the long road that lies ahead.”

Kate went on to explain: “Whatever happens next Im afraid it IS going to be a long road, with an uncertain end that isnt even nearly in sight right now.

“BUT. This week I am refocusing on the hope that as a family we are going to pull together with the support of friends and get through everything come what may,” she continued.

“Hope- because I know that the amazing people keeping Derek alive, stand shoulder to shoulder with me in NEVER giving up on him and, of course, hope that my wonderful Derek is going to keep fighting this and eventually start to slowly recover.”

The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star concluded: “After all we are all having to do that arent we in one way or another – this ghastly time has affected us all & life deals us blows that we just have to bounce back from & celebrate the good.

“This Fathers Day I am sending you all the love & positivity in the world – lets seek out the joy! #staypositive #hope #fathersday.”

This comes after Kate’s I’m A Celebrity co-star Roman Kemp admitted he has been “sending messages” to Kate every day in a new interview.

“All I can say is Kate has all the love in the world from myself and my dad and my whole family,” he told Metro.co.uk.

Roman went on: “Were praying for her every day and were always sending messages and doing whatever we can to make her life any bit easier.

The Capital presenter revealed: “And I think its a real thing that makes everyone put their own life into perspective, because what shes going through right now is more important than anything.”

“Were praying for her every day and were always sending messages and doing whatever we can to make her life any bit easier,” he continued to tell Metro.co.uk.

“And I think its a real thing that makes everyone put their own life into perspective, because what shes going through right now is more important than anything.”

In her first television appearance since Derek, 52, was admitted to hospital with coronavirus in March, an emotional Kate said: “He’s still with us. He has fought the most extraordinary battle

“But you know, the fact that he is still here and is holding on. I’m just so grateful he’s still here. And I’ve got the option of praying and hoping.”

She continued: “He is very, very sick. And as time goes on, it’s a virus, it’s a little bit like a computer virus, there seems to be a flicker of hope and then other things emerge and he’s fighting that.

“It’s affected him from the top of his head to the tips of his toes.”

The GMB star went on to explain that Derek is now “Covid free” but his journey to recovery will be a long road ahead.
