No, this photo of a dog in high heels wasn’t taken in an animal brothel :-: Metro
A photo of a dog dressed up in tights and heels has been used to illustrate a disturbing story claiming animal brothels are attracting British tourists.
There’s just one problem with the picture – it has absolutely nothing to do with bestiality.
Instead, the image released by an animal rights group in Serbia comes from a meme in China where dog owners put tights and stockings on their pets.
However, some media outlets reported that the image was in fact taken at an animal brothel in Serbia popular with foreign tourists, including Brits.
While it’s unclear whether these ‘dog brothels’ actually exist in Serbia, this image definitely wasn’t taken at one.
In fact, it comes from a bizarre trend that did the rounds on Chinese social media site Weibo in 2013 – which was pretty weird, but not sexual.
Recently, the photo resurfaced as a meme making fun of drunk women, Buzzfeed reported.
Serbian animal rights group Leviathan circulated the image on its Facebook page in September, describing it as an ‘extreme photo’.
In a statement, it said: ‘We’ve received information that this is the kind of brothels with dogs in Belgrade.
‘This kind of decadence to society and western trends must stop.
‘We offer an early 1000 Euro reward who brings us to one of these places, or to give us information where these people are gathered.’
But even in the group’s comments section, people posted links to articles about the craze in China.
It is unclear if animal brothels exist in Serbia, but reports had claimed that its capital Belgrade is a tourist attraction for zoophiles.
An investigation by TV channel RTL claimed that visitors pay between 70 and 150 Euros (£60 to £135) for sex with animals including goats, sheep, donkeys, dogs, cats, geese and cows.
