ITV’s tense drama Bancroft comes to a head as Elizabeth Bancroft, played by Sarah Parish, tries to keep a lid on her lies and stay one step ahead of the people investigating the murder of Laura Fraser.

Fans will finally find out whether Katherine Stevens, played by Faye Marsay, will bring about Bancroft’s downfall…or whether Bancroft will get to stroll off into the sunset.

Of course Liz must be brought to justice, but Parish’s portrayal of this complex, dark character has been so gripping we’re kind of rooting her. Kind of.

In this unnerving clip from the fourth and final episode we get a hint of what makes Bancroft tick as she is interviewed for the Chief Superintendent job.

Bancroft tells her superiors: ‘I’m strong managerially. I’m a visible leader. I hope and I believe that I can bring more than those skills to this job.

‘The public have lost faith in the police, they think we hide behind our desks ticking boxes. I’d get out there. Make a difference. I’d bring people to justice who need to be brought to justice.

‘I prioritise victims, root out perpetrators, reward when it’s due, punish when it’s required, and get results.’

There’s something about that ‘punish when it’s required’ part that’s making us a little nervous. Did Laura Fraser need to be ‘punished’?

Bancroft concludes tonight at 9pm on ITV.
