The Exorcist (0.4/2) ended its second season and 2017 with a narrative bang last night. On a Blue Blood-less Friday that saw little movement for most shows, the bloody and unexpected death of a major character on the finale of the Fox horror drama was pretty placid among adults 18-49.

Like lead-in Hell’s Kitchen (0.8/4), the Ben Daniels, John Cho and Alfronso Herrera starring series was even with last week among the key demo. The “Unworthy” episode did see a 14% rise in viewers from its December 8 airing. Looking year-to-year, the picture wasn’t quite so pretty for the scrappy show with Exorcist down 33% from its Season 1 ender of December 16, 2016, also a Friday.

Down was partially in the surf for Hawaii Five-O last night with a double shot of the 50th State set show on CBS. In its regular 9 PM slot, the first Five-O (1.0/4) led the night in the demo but went down a tenth from last week. At 10 PM, stepping in for the Tom Selleck led NYPD family drama, that second Five-O (0.9/4) was exactly the same as Blue Bloods result of last Friday. On a night that found the House of Moonves once again winning Friday with a 1.0/4 rating and 8.56 million viewers, the 8 PM MacGyver (0.9/4) was also down a tenth.

Over on the CW, the 86th Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade (0.3/1) was exactly the same as the 85th from last year. Blindspot (0.7/3), Once Upon a Time (0.5/2), and Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (0.5/2) were also all the same as their December 8 shows.

In the battle of the end of week news mag shows, Dateline (0.9/4) and 20/20 (0.5/2) were, you guessed it Christmas shoppers – exactly the same as their December 8 shows.
