Former Big Brother contestant Rebecca Jane has come under fire over her belief housewife shouldn’t be classified as a career.

Rebecca Jane, a working mum and former BB contestant, appeared on the show alongside Kerry Whelpdale to debate whether housewives are ‘lazy’.

Schofield however got entangled in the debate after stating Rebecca had called housewives ‘lazy’ during a chat with show researchers before the show aired, which she adamantly denied.

Contesting the claim, Jane said: ‘I didn’t say they were lazy. I think they should be setting dreams and aspirations and goals for their children to look up to.

‘I didn’t think being a housewife is a career option once your children have gone to school.

‘It’s not about being a wonderful mother because we can all be wonderful mothers whatever we choose, it’s about setting dreams and aspirations for your children.

‘I don’t want my two daughters to look at me sitting at home all day and thinking that’s a career option.’

The debate got extra awkward when Rebecca asked what Kerry does all day, who replied: ‘I don’t have a cleaner, I cook every day. I don’t want my husband and kids to come home to me doing my choices.

‘Once I have done all my work I would go and meet a friend for coffee.’

She also added how she needed to ‘manage her WhatsApp groups’, to the slight hysterics of Rebecca.

As you can expect, the debate’s caused quite the online fuss.

Being a housewife isn’t a career option it’s a life choice. As long as you pay for yourselves and don’t sponge off us tax payers then do what you like! #ThisMorning

Working mum is an oxymoron! All mums are working whether they are at home or going into an office ? #ThisMorning

A stay at home mother should NOT feel degraded or belittled, or that they’re lazy just because they chose that lifestyle for whatever reason they have. #ThisMorning

Others however felt like poking the housewife nest.

When people say they’re a ‘full time Mum’ as an occupation ? and their kids are like 12 & 15!
I was a full time Dad with 2 under 5s and did a PhD at the same time. It’s not an occupation believe me! #ThisMorning

Think the stay at home mum was bashing working mum's a bit. I still do all the "jobs" she does and manage a job too… #thismorning
