Its very hard to keep a secret safe in the world of soap what with paparazzi, social media and, umm, soap magazines and websites keen to get the latest gossip to their adoring fans.
But Emmerdale have played a blinder in keeping Claire Kings return as Kim Tate under wraps – as the actress knew about it for nearly a year!
And, save for a slip up from an ITV announcer (awkward!), the announcement came as a big surprise to delighted fans.
At a recent screening of her episodes, Claire enthused to us: Ive known quite a long time – a year really. Its been quite hard not telling anybody at all. I did tell my mum and dad and my partner but thats it. My friends are all texting me now saying “you cow, you said you were going to do Eldorado!” It was weird, having to park in the back lot with false noses and all sorts – it was ridiculous. Everyone did a brilliant job – everyone kept it quiet!

My code name in the scripts was Anna Seed. The other cast were told but I dont know how long before. Luckily the continuity announcer was only two hours before the reveal and not a year!
And the fan reaction was huge, even seeing Kim Tate trend on Twitter. And Claire is over the moon with the response and the fact that Kim is still remembered so fondly two decades on.
She grinned: Its lovely considering half of them werent even born when I was last in it. Weve reached a new generation. Its lovely that a lot of fans from other shows like Bad Girls and even Corrie fans have come along with it. Come on over to Yorkshire! Its been so lovely. I dont know how kids from Love Island keep up with their social media – its just madness, so I havent been able to read it all. You could spend all day on it.
