David Walliams may be the most unlikely judge The X Factor has ever seen – but there is method to the madness.

The Little Britain star is temporarily jumping ship from sitting beside Simon Cowell on Britains Got Talent in an attempt to take him down on The X Factor as Robbie Williams aide during this weekends Judges Houses.

I like that Ive now done it with Rob because I want him to win, I dont want Simon to win, David enthused.

Ive known Rob for a long time, so it felt natural that we would do this together. It felt easy, were not at each others throats.

Naturally, Davids lack of experience in the music industry will raise a lot of eyebrows when he joins serial chart-topper Robbie on Sunday night, but the comic explained why he fits in perfectly.

Im not a musician, Im a fan of music but when people start talking about vocal ranges I dont really have a clue, he admitted. I mean, I can hear when things arent great, but I dont know the technicalities of it.

But I think thats ok because I just respond to a feeling, whether I thought people were good or not. The audience know as well, you just know when youre being entertained or not.

This years Judges Houses is set to be another emotional affair after another nail-biting Six Chair Challenge at the weekend.

Robbie will be making not one but two appearances, as he was forced to step in when wife Ayda Field broke down while whittling her remaining six singers down to just three.

The latest comes after Sharon Osborne quit The X Factor just weeks before she was scheduled to join the panel as the impartial fifth judge.

Mrs. O insisted she chose to walk away from the ITV series, despite reports claiming she was axed after attacking Simon Cowell and describing The X Factor as fucking karaoke.

The X Factor continues Sunday on ITV.
