Following a successful trial, HBO have announced that they will be hiring intimacy coordinators to serve on every one of its TV shows and films that feature sex scenes.

The blanket policy will come into effect immediately, with the coordinators role on-set intended to ensure that industry standards for sex scenes are met and that sexual abuse is prevented.

The practice was successfully piloted by the US network during the recent filming of the second season of The Deuce, which stars James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

A tweet from HBOs PR department confirmed that the policy would now be put in to place on all future HBO productions.

In the Rolling Stone piece that is referenced in the above tweet, the impact of the #MeToo movement was cited as an important factor behind the decision to hire an intimacy coordinator to serve on the set of The Deuce.

Actress Emily Meade, who plays the sex worker-turned-porn star Lori Madison in The Deuce, revealed that she initially made a request to the shows creators for an advocate purely for sexual scenes.

When it comes to sexuality, which is one of the most vulnerable things for all humans, men and women, theres really no system, Meade told HBO in a recent interview about the existing system for protecting actors during the filming of sex scenes.

Theres never been a person required to be there to protect and bring expertise.

Coordinator Alicia Rodis was on hand to fill the role for The Deuce, and shell also be employed by HBO to work on intimate scenes on the upcoming Watchmen series Crashing and the Deadwood movie.

Meade said that the hiring of Rodis transformed the entire thing for the better.

Rodis is currently training new coordinators to work with HBO, with the production on the likes of the upcoming crime drama Jett and the Drake executively-produced high school series Euphoria set to be among the first to adopt the practice.
