Neil Gaiman has claimed that Doctor Who altered Toby Whitehouses script for the show.

The 58-year-old author, who wrote an episode for the BBC science fiction series back in 2011 called The Doctors Wife as well as the Nightmare in Silver two years later, met Toby at a reading of their scripts.

The pair, who came close to collaborating for the show, explored each others work and Neil revealed Tobys was altered – and not for the better.

Speaking to Deadline, he said: We definitely liked each other and we liked each others work.

Because I was writing Doctor Who, I had the privilege of reading Tobys script, which I felt on the whole was rather better than the episode, I got to read the raw script before people who werent Toby started messing with them.

Neil also reported that he fell out of love with Doctor Who after writing on his second episode Nightmare in Silver as his involvement was minimal.

Telling The Telegraph last month, he revealed: I did two episodes of Doctor Who over the last decade, one I loved and it won awards, one I do not love and it is widely regarded as having some good bits in it but being rather a curates egg.

As far as Im concerned both of the scripts were of equal quality but the biggest differences were having a say in what actually got to the screen, a say in what got changed, a say in what got rewritten, a say in the colour scheme, a say in all those things.

The current series of Doctor Who, which stars Jodie Whittaker as the thirteenth Doctor, has been so far been a huge success, with more girls tuning in than ever before.

Last weeks episode, called Demons of the Punjab, saw Yaz learning her tragic family history in India at the start of Partition.

Metro.co.uk have contacted the BBC for comment.

Doctor Who continues on Sunday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
