Former EastEnders star Jack Ryder is set to join the cast of Holby City.

The actor will be making his return to a major soap after his character Jamie Mitchell was killed off in EastEnders in 2002.

Hell join Holby City as consultant surgeon Evan, the boyfriend of Chloe Godard, played by fellow newbie Amy Lennox, who arrives in town to try and get his girlfriend to take their relationship seriously.

Chloe is a doctor at neighbouring hospital Capel Cross, and arrives to help her mother Ange, played by Dawn Steele, with a tricky patient.

Their first scenes will air next year.

Jack said: I am delighted to be joining Holby City and look forward to working with such a talented group of people. I cant wait to give a voice to this exciting new character and serve a show that people love.

Amy added: Im thrilled to be joining Holby as Chloe Godard and working with such an amazing cast and crew over at BBC Elstree. Chloe has some really great storylines coming up that I cant wait to share with you all. So excited!

Simon Harper, Executive Producer of Holby City and Casualty, said: Weve been talking to Jack for a while to find the right part for him on Holby and his powerful, nuanced audition for Evan blew us away. Hes both a household name and a superb actor, and fans who remember him as Jamie in EastEnders are in for a big treat and quite a surprise seeing him in this very different role. Evan is a complex, alpha surgeon who makes some major waves in Holby.

Jamie Mitchell was Phil Mitchells godsun and had been in an on/off relationship with Sonia for much of his time on the show.

He was killed off in tragic scenes on Christmas Day in 2002 when Martin Fowler hit him with the car after being distracted by his mobile phone.
